Just before I left the house for my walk I almost took my Nikon D750 with me but I decided on my trusty Ricoh GRII instead. I knew I wouldn’t be able to get my usual shallow depth of field shots that I capture with the Nikon primes, but the Ricoh forced me to shoot in a completely different way. Plus, it’s extremely small and fun to use.

It's easy nowadays to get caught up in all the latest gear and think you need the most expensive equipment or the newest model of a particular camera. God knows I struggle with G.A.S. (gear acquisition syndrome) everyday. I always find myself looking through Amazon or reading reviews. I do my best to keep a level head and decide if I REALLY need that new camera or lens. Will it make me a better photographer? Can I do anything different with that new camera that I can't already accomplish with what I have? In most cases the answer is usually no.

It had been a while since I got the chance to just walk around aimlessly and take photos on the street. A few days ago I did exactly that. One of my favourite areas in town is Simpson Street so I parked on a side street and prepared to explore. It was one of those days that I just didn't want to sit behind my computer and stare at a screen, so I figured I would get and enjoy some of the nice weather, and take some photos in the process. This time around, I took my Nikon D750 paired with the 35mm 1.8. I always go on about the tones and colours that come out of my Fuji cameras, but the Nikon is right there as well, and if anything, the colours are just as good. For the longest time I would always just carry around the 50mm lens but I think the 35mm on the Nikon is my new favourite. It's a nice balance and it has amazing close focusing abilities. I'm able to blur out the background easily and the bokeh produced is actually quite pleasing.

It was finally and overcast and gloomy day, and I was so thankful for it. Don't get me wrong, I like sun as next as the next person, but my absolute type of weather for walking around taking photos it definitely cloudy, overcast days. I just love the lighting and the tones.

I had the afternoon off and it was a decently warm day so I grabbed my camera and headed down to Cumberland Street. It had been a while since I had the chance to walk around this area to take photos so I figured it was as good a time as any. As I usually do, I parked the car and wandered in and out of the back alleys looking for anything the caught my me.

So it seems as though I have gotten way behind on posting my personal stuff. Not just because wedding season is in full swing and it's the busiest time of year, but also life has just been busy. It doesn't help when your house floods for the 2nd time in 2 years as well. In any case, here are some of my favourite photos from the past 3-4 months.
