I woke up today, and as I usually do, I looked out the window. To my surprise, I saw snow falling. Lots of it. I knew I had to get out for walk, no matter how cold. I looked at the weather forecast on my phone and it said .. ‘feels like -25’. Yikes. After some breakfast and easing into the morning, I decided it was time. My wife always gets made at me for not dressing warm enough. Well, if she saw me, she would have been extremely proud.
My camera of choice, was a camera I have been wanting to get for a long, long time. The Canon 1DX II. For those of you in the know, you may be saying, ‘well … aren’t they just releasing the Mark III next month’. True. But, I tend to buy older cameras to save money. Although, sometimes I buy too many cameras but that is a whole other thing. With wedding season approaching, I wanted a camera that complemented my Canon R, which I also love. There is just something about the ergonomics and speed of a true, flagship DSLR. In any case, this isn’t a camera review, it’s simply a short recap of my walk today. Perhaps I’ll do a review once I have had a chance to use this beast of a camera more.
As I set out on my walk, I actually got giddy. Just seeing the large snowflakes falling, I knew they presented a great atmosphere for photos. I never really have a goal in mind for my personal walks. I just tend to shoot what I see. I have been forcing myself to try different techniques lately. One of those techniques is out of focus photos, on purpose. Especially with snow, you can really get some interesting results. Plus, the occasional ‘blurry’ photo can be pretty artistic.
I ended up walking from my house all the way through the trails of Lakehead University. It was so very peaceful, being the only one out on the trails along the river. I didn’t see a soul until I was on the main campus.
These are the best of the best from my walk. In all, I think I took around 230 photos. I narrowed them down to just over 20. I think it’s important to be selective. I also forces you to be a bit more critical about your work.
Thanks for stopping by!
