This morning saw me venture over to Fishermans Park to see what I could capture. It was an extremely cold morning so I didn’t want to stay out too long but I did take the time to get a few keepers. I really need to invest in some thicker gloves as it’s always my hands (and face) that get cold when holding the camera. As soon as I saw that it was yet another dark and gloomy morning, I knew the lighting would be perfect, at least for my style of photography.
I brought the Canon 5D with me and as usual, the 50mm 1.2. Since it was still pretty dark in the morning, the fast lens helped keep the ISO down a bit. With the older Canon 5D, I’m still fine going up to around 3200 if need be but I find 400-800 ISO is the sweet spot. I actually like the grain the camera produces.
There weren’t a lot of ships docked at the park, aside from the one, but that was enough for me. I captured a few overall scenes too. After warming up in the car for a bit, I decided to head down to the waterfront and check out the abandoned area there. I had to take photos from afar as it is all closed off but that’s just how it is. If only I could get permission to walk around in that area, I would be in heaven.
I wasn’t out long this morning but I’m happy with some of the photos I got, especially with how cold it was outside.
