I was graced with yet another chilly gloomy day here in the great up north. Aside from the cold, it was perfect weather. I had my extremely non compact and heavy like a brick Canon 5D Classic with me. I’m not sure why I needed a battery grip on that thing when I’m just walking around the streets but I swear it makes it that much more comfortable to use, albeit, 5 pounds heavier. I’m a pretty strong guy with big hands so it doesn’t really bother me.
I must have walked up and down this area 100 times in my life but I never get bored of trying to photograph new and interesting compositions. I embrace that challenge, and that is what makes it fun for me. The great thing about Thunder Bay is that there is a good mix of old an new everywhere in the city. There are still buildings around this neighbourhood in particular that have been there for ages.
As with most of my ‘street photography’, I’m mainly shooting street scenes. There really aren’t that many people walking around the streets so I settle for still life type photos. I often get in close to capture the details, but I also make sure to photograph scenes too. It’s important to step back once in a while and look at the overall picture.
Overall it was another fun, yet chilling to the bone walk. The cold weather keeps me awake though and forces me not to stick around one spot too long. Happy shooting!
