I’ve been out a lot lately taking personal photos. Sometimes I’m feeling it and others I really have to work to see good photos. I have a really good photographic eye, but it doesn’t always come easy. Well, my morning walk in Westfort was one of those times I was kind of feeling it. I kept the pace going pretty steady, just stopping here and there, mainly because it was so frigging cold out. I find I work best when I keep moving though. Don’t get me wrong, sometimes for me it makes sense to stop and work a scene but I tend to only do that when I shoot people on the street.
For those of you who don’t know, Westfort is one of the oldest neighbourhoods in the Thunder Bay. For me, that means there is a lot of character. It ended up being a good 45 minute power walk and I covered a lot of ground. The one thing I like about Westfort is that there are lots of pigeons around because of the train yard. I have actually gotten some of my favourite photos from this neighbourhood. I think that is why I choose this part of town a lot.
As I mentioned in the title, I chose the Canon 5D Classic paired with my usual 50mm 1.2. It’s such an amazing combo. Since it was still very dark in the early morning hours, the fast lens helped keep the noise down. I’m not scared of noise though.
The banner photo at the top was my favourite. I heard pigeons flying and I quickly looked up and snapped that photo. Don’t let anyone tell you you can take photos with old cameras like the Canon 5D. It’s just as fast as my newer cameras. Well, not quite, but pretty darn close.
