Part of my New Year’s resolution is start posting on this site more often. Even though I don’t think anyone really visits this sites, perhaps the odd post might inspire some of you out there to get out and photography close to home. I get out a lot and take photos. I simply can’t imagine a life without photography.
My walk this morning was a simple walk around the neighbourhood. It’s an area I’ve walked around many times before. It’s also one I have photographed before too. The challenge in living in a smaller city, is finding new things to photograph, at locations you frequently visit. I enjoy that challenge.
One of the ways I do that is by utilizing shallow depth of field, but also different angles and compositions. I find it fun, and I think it has trained my creative eye throughout the years. This has carried over to my professional work, and essentially all forms of photography I do.
I have recently added the wonderful Panasonic G9 to my collection. Admittedly, I have always written off the micro four thirds system as inferior. I’ve been brainwashed into thinking full frame is the be all end all. With that being said, I use full frame cameras for all my pro work, and I understand the reasoning why, and the strengths.
I do think any photographer who knows what they are doing, can get great photos with pretty much any camera. You do need to know the limitations of each camera you use of course. After using the G9 for about a week now, it was quickly become one of my favourite cameras. So much so, that I am already starting to invest in some lenses. Not that I need an excuse to buy even more gear.
I’ll be posting more photos from the G9 in the coming weeks, and I will continue to share my thoughts. Lastly, the lens I used, the 12-40mm … wow. What an immensely fun lens. I’m not a huge fan of zoom lenses, but the versatility, sharpness, character and most importantly, macro ability with this lens, makes it such an amazing all around lens. I am very impressed.
That is it for now. For anyone out there who stumbles across this post or blog, let me know what camera you are using and what you love about it. That also applies to lenses too!
