I have had my Nikon DF on the local camera shop shelf for about 6 months. Having mainly switched to Canon for the past year, I felt it was time to sell it. During that time, I always had this little voice in my head telling me not to sell it. Luckily, no one ended up buying it, so I took it back. I immediately remembered why I bought it in the first place. The joy of using it and the photos it produces are just unique to anything I own. Admittedly, I was trying to sell it to pay for other gear, which is the only reason I tend to sell stuff in the first place.
I also decided to buy a the used 28mm 2.8 lens from the camera store. It’s completely manual, but the good thing with the DF, is that it can use all those old vintage lenses. 28mm is a focal length I’m familiar with, as it’s on my Ricoh GRII. Since putting it on the DF, I haven’t taken it off. Combined with the full frame sensor of the DF and the amazing sharpness of this oldie of a lens, the photos I have been getting are lovely. It has actually been forcing me to do more ‘landscape’ photography.
Today I brought the combo with me to Mission Marsh and then to Trow Bridge. It was an extremely dark and gloomy day which was perfect. The main challenge now is to make sure I still use my other cameras for my personal photography! Oh, I also ended up ordering the old 50mm 1.4 manual lens yesterday. I’m super stoked for that lens to arrive. After all, 50mm is my favourite focal length.
Have a great weekend!
