I buy too many cameras. There I said it. I guess you could say I have G.A.S. but it’s not always new stuff I buy. I enjoy buying older cameras. Case in point, my Canon 5D Classic. I adore this camera. It’s big, it’s old, it’s missing a couple port covers but it’s otherwise in amazing condition. To date, it produces the best colours and tones out of any camera I have ever owned. There is just something about the files it produces that makes me want to keep shooting. I of course pair it most of the time with my 50mm 1.2 so I’m sure a lot of it has to do with the lens. But there is just something film like about the sensor on this camera.
It’s not the most comfortable camera to hold, and even being a pretty strong guy with big hands I do find I have to switch hands every once in a while as I carry it. Then again, I don’t use a strap. Oh, I also recently bought the battery grip for it. Go figure. So now I’m carrying around a 10 pound brick to take street photos. I love it though.
I hadn’t been to Jumbo Gardens for quite some time so I figured I was due. Plus it was a beautiful overcast day so the lighting was perfect. No one else was around, as usual, it was just me. That’s how I like it. I focused on simply capturing the landscape and some of the finer details. As you can probably tell from my previous posts, I love getting in close to subjects and wiping out the background with my 1.2 lens. But I also make sure I step back and photograph larger scenes as well. I find it’s a nice balance. I’m also always getting low to the ground or even looking up and above.
I had so much fun photographing this park that I decided to continue on my journey to the other side of town. Check out my next post for highlights from that excursion.
